Blood count panel

Haemoglobin

Also called Hgb · measured in g/dL

What it measures

The concentration of the oxygen-carrying protein in red blood cells.

Why it is tracked

Tracked alongside haematocrit during testosterone therapy, and used to identify anaemia, which can itself cause the fatigue that prompted the consultation.

What a provider considers

  • Moves with haematocrit
  • Low values warrant investigation of the cause rather than treatment alone

Reference ranges vary between laboratories and a single result rarely means much on its own. Interpretation depends on your symptoms, your other markers and the trend over time — which is what your provider reviews.
