Blood count panel
Haematocrit
Also called HCT · measured in %
What it measures
The proportion of blood volume made up of red blood cells.
Why it is tracked
Testosterone therapy can raise red cell production. A rise is usually asymptomatic, so it is detected by scheduled bloodwork rather than by how you feel. This is the single most important safety marker tracked during testosterone therapy.
What a provider considers
- Rises with testosterone therapy, sleep apnoea, smoking and altitude
- A sustained rise may prompt dose reduction, interval change or pausing therapy
- Monitored at defined intervals throughout treatment
Reference ranges vary between laboratories and a single result rarely means much on its own. Interpretation depends on your symptoms, your other markers and the trend over time — which is what your provider reviews.
