Metabolic panel
HbA1c
Also called Glycated haemoglobin, A1c · measured in %
What it measures
The proportion of haemoglobin with glucose attached, reflecting average blood glucose over roughly three months.
Why it is tracked
The standard marker of longer-term glycaemic control and a core input to any metabolic or weight-management plan. It is less affected by a single meal than fasting glucose.
What a provider considers
- Distorted by anaemia, haemoglobin variants and recent blood loss
- Used for eligibility and monitoring in metabolic care
- Reviewed alongside fasting glucose and insulin
Reference ranges vary between laboratories and a single result rarely means much on its own. Interpretation depends on your symptoms, your other markers and the trend over time — which is what your provider reviews.
